Overview
This six-week class will guide students through developing a process-based approach to learning etudes. During the class, students will participate in live online video discussions and go through the process of learning etudes with mentor teacher, Dr. Patricia Surman. Students will learn to develop a systematic approach to understanding and performing etudes. We will target one etude from Piazzolla's Six Tango Etudes per week addressing aspects of developing tone, technique and time; students will learn to make artistic decisions and how to execute them on the instrument. Additional discussion will center around developing efficient practice methods and creating, choosing and implementing technical exercises that enhance the learning of these etudes.
Students will be given etudes to learn and upload each week and personalized feedback will be provided. Additionally, each week will feature a guest lecture on aspects of etude-learning.
